Lou Mougin, R.I.P.

Sorry to start the year with an obit and even sorrier it's about Lou Mougin. Lou was a writer and historian of comic books and no one loved the medium more. He had a special affinity/interest for Golden Age super-hero comics but he read and studied just about everything and was responsible for a lot of excellent research and articles. I do not know the cause of death but he was born in 1954 and had been telling online friends for some time that he was ill. On his Amazon author page, he described himself thusly…

Writer and historian of comics, new pulp, and anything I can get my hands on. Worked for Marvel, Heroic, Lucky, Eclipse, The Creeps, Pro Se, Claypool, InDellible, and others. Old but immature, Christian, trying to hang on.

…and I know he also worked for several years as an overnight disc jockey on some small radio station in Texas.

This next part's a little tough to write. Lou and I were very good friends for many years and then it all ended. He used to call me at all hours and want to talk, sometimes just about comics, sometimes about problems he was having, which were many. There was a limit to how much time I could spend on the phone with him, especially during the period when my mother and then my lady friend were dying. But he kept calling and calling and I finally had to ask him to stop. Which didn't stop him so the friendship had to end.

If Lou discussed our breakup with you, he probably told you is was about politics, which it wasn't. I don't want to give my whole side of it here since Lou's not around to give his. Let's just say he was a sweet guy and my memories of our friendship are positive. I just wish it could have gone on longer. And I wish he could have gone on longer.
