ASK me: Comic Book Script Writing Software

James Flores asks a question that I'm surprised no one's asked me before. And it's a question for which I don't have much of an answer…

You write comic book scripts. What's the best software for that?

Beats me. Years ago — when there was no such thing as software for that purpose, my pal Steve Gerber and I spent some time writing a series of macros that enabled Microsoft Word to function for that purpose. We were both PC guys, by the way. We arrived at something that was workable — not perfect but it got the job done so we could get our jobs done. I still use that, though it doesn't work as cleanly with current versions of Word as it once did.

Steve — who knew more about this kind of thing than I did — went on to perfect our set of macros a bit more and though he gave me what he devised, I was never able to make them work on any of my computers. I was also never able to improve on them myself. Computer technology is not something that sticks around in my brain for very long. When I started this blog, I designed the original template for it and for a while, retained enough knowledge to fix and upgrade. But a few years ago when it became imperative to rewrite the template, I couldn't remember a damned thing and had to pay an expert thousands of dollars to replicate my old design in newer programming.

Would anyone reading this like to help James out? For that matter, if it works on a PC and doesn't store what you write in a cloud somewhere, I might even give it a try. There's gotta be something better than what Steve and I devised back in the Stone Age of the 1980's.
