This Sunday, TCM is noting the hundredth birthday of Mr. Mel Brooks with five of his movies. They are, in this order: The Twelve Chairs, The Producers, Spaceballs, Blazing Saddles and then Young Frankenstein. If I were running that channel, I'd show all eleven in reverse order going from the one I liked least to the one I liked the most. Here is how I would rank them…
If by some chance your list is different from mine, that is because your list is wrong. But if you want to go through life with a list that egregiously misranks the eleven Mel Brooks movies, that's your business. Your list may even include films like To Be Or Not To Be or the musical version of The Producers. That's fine. If you want to put more than eleven films on your list of eleven films, that is (again) your business.
Oops. They ran those films last Sunday. But everything else I said was right, especially the list.
